We began working with SKB last year to sponsor 5 women in West Bengal, providing college tuition, health care, living expenses, a study center and books for the entire year! Now, we are proud to report that 3 out of the 5 young women we supported last year have already graduated, all with honors! This year we will fill these 3 spots with 3 new women, plus add on 3 more new women and continue to sponsor the other 2 women (making that a total of 8 women this year) for their entire college education!
School-on-Wheels
A program that really hits home with what we want to accomplish, School-on-Wheels targets street children at a much younger age helping them to understand that education is the way out of poverty. School-on-Wheels is an organization that buys buses and drives them around picking up the children that are begging and have nowhere to go in Mumbai and Pune. These school buses offer alternative mobile classrooms where teachers instruct on-board lessons about basic skills in reading, writing, and hygiene. These moving classrooms also offer a bit of food and water for each day’s students. The program is already becoming a success, with children eagerly waiting for the bus in the mornings!
It is through these small steps that we hope to make a huge difference in the lives of the poverty-stricken youth, giving them a childhood and building a brighter future through education.
