since the birth of Shobha® (the salon) back in 2001, we have always had a vested interest in furthering the lives of south asian women, not only with our own staff, but with the community as a whole. over the past eight years this ability to help others has become a driving force in our future plans as a company.  it is through these small steps that we hope to make a huge difference in the lives of the poverty-stricken youth, giving them a childhood & building a brighter future through education.

we began working with skb in 2006 to sponsor women in west bengal, providing college tuition, health care, living expenses, a study center & books for the entire year!  now, we are proud to report that many of these young women we supported have already graduated, all with honors! this year we will continue to sponsor the women who are still in school from the years past, as well as add more women to fill the slots of those who graduated & promise to support them for their entire college education!

school-on-wheels
a program that really hits home with what we want to accomplish, school-on-wheels targets street children at a much younger age helping them to understand that education is the way out of poverty. school-on-wheels is an organization that buys buses & drives them around picking up the children that are begging & have nowhere to go in mumbai & pune. these school buses offer alternative mobile classrooms where teachers instruct on-board lessons about basic skills in reading, writing, & hygiene. these moving classrooms also offer a bit of food & water for each day’s students. the program is already becoming a success, with children eagerly waiting for the bus in the mornings!
