Industry Insider Info
Surely, if you've read thus far, you know that
the Shobha Family only wants to make you happy and we take all
precautions on our end to make sure that we do everything to make
your experience an enjoyable one. We would just like to make it
known to all of our clients what others in our field may try to
hide or deny.
Even though we are all about sterilization,
there is still a chance that waxing/sugaring can result in minor
bumps, rashes, etc. for super sensitive skin types. For most,
such irritations can be soothed and treated with over-the-counter
topical treatments like Cortizone10 gel. If such irritation persists,
we urge you to immediately see a dermatologist.
Don't Knock It - Patch It!
Please don't let these warnings prevent you
from trying our sugaring or waxing treatments! So, if you've never
sugared or waxed before and are feeling slightly apprehensive,
we recommend dropping in for a complimentary patch test to see
how you react personally, before entering a complete hairless
state of being!
It Takes Two To Tango
We love doing our part so that you are happily
hair-free, but we also strongly encourage that you love yourself
as much as we do. Below is some helpful information to harmonious
hairlessness:
Precautions
- For sensitive skin waxing/sugaring/threading
may result in minor bumps, rashes, etc. More specifically, waxing/sugaring/threading
can result in temporary enlargement of the hair follicles that
can allow bacteria, normally residing on the skin, to enter the
follicles and cause superficial or deep skin infections. If an
infection is noted, it should be evaluated and treated by a dermatologist
as soon as possible.
- If you have never waxed/sugared/threaded before,
please request a complimentary patch test before you undergo a
Shobha waxing/sugaring/threading treatment. We recommend waiting
24 - 48 hours after the patch test to see if any adverse reactions
occur before a full treatment is performed.
- Here at Shobha we use only sanitary equipment
and enforce a strict No Double-DipSM Policy, which means that the
same spatula will NEVER be re-dipped into the vat of wax/sugaring
gel.
- It is Shobha policy that Specialists will NOT
perform bikini treatments on menstruating clients.
- Specialists will wear disposable gloves during
treatments if they have any hand injuries and during all bikini
treatments. You may also request that the Specialist wear gloves
during any treatment.
After-Care
- The area that was treated may be more sensitive
than usual for the next 24 - 48 hours.
- Please be kind to your skin, avoid harsh products,
that may have adverse reactions, for the next 24 - 48 hours after
your treatment.
- Refrain from using skin care products,
like cleansers and moisturizers, which contain acids (i.e.
alpha-hydroxy, glycolic, salicylic, etc.)
- Although these acidic ingredients help
remove the dead outer layers of skin, they may cause an adverse
reaction after hair removal, depending on the sensitivity
of your skin.
- Avoid ultra-violet rays from tanning beds and/or
sunbathing for at least 48 hours. Always wear proper UV protection.
- Resist the sauna and steam room for at least
48 hours.
- If you have been waxed/sugared/threaded
- Gently wash the area with an antibacterial
soap in lukewarm water. Hold off taking hot baths/showers
for at least 2 hours after your treatment.
- Use a cold compress to help soothe the
hairless skin if you feel any discomfort or irritation after
your treatment.
- Medical experts recommend abstaining from
sexual activity for the first 48 hours after any type of bikini
wax. This time period is when your body is most susceptible
to outside bacteria which can potentially cause an infection.
- We recommend daily exfoliation of the area
to help prevent ingrown hairs after the first 48 hours. You
can check out our range of exfoliation products at Shobha
SoHo, Shobha Madison, and online (www.shobhathreading.com)!
- Hydrocortisone cream may be used after any
hair removal treatments to help reduce irritation and inflammation,
as long as you have no medical reasons prohibiting its use. Feel
free to ask your specialist to apply some hydrocortisone cream
before you leave. You may also reapply the cream at home that
evening if you feel any further irritation. Hydrocortisone cream
can be found at your local drug store.
